Gender, Disability & Inclusion

Greater economic inclusion of the poorest is an essential ingredient of sustainable economic growth.

DFID’s 2017 Economic Development Strategy prioritises the need to tackle structural barriers so that the poorest and most marginalised can access productive jobs.

ICED has developed the Gender and Inclusion (G&I) framework, which provides a practical tool to help apply DFID’s gender equality and ‘leave no one behind’ policy objectives in infrastructure and urban programming for economic growth. ­The framework recognises that improved access to economic opportunities must be accompanied by working strategically to understand and shift structural drivers of social and economic inequality.

In order to promote DFID’s impact in achieving inclusivity in infrastructure funding and investments, ICED works across four key priority areas. These are Disability, VAWG, WEE, and Youth. ICED also provides support on areas such as Safeguarding. ICED has delivered a number of technical assistance projects to DFID advisers under these themes, including:
